New categories also celebrate those raising Yorkshire’s creative image
New categories, celebrating the creation of factual news and current affairs programmes as well as TV drama and entertainment shows, have been added to this year’s O2 Media Awards for Yorkshire.
“Yorkshire is growing a well earned reputation, nationally and internationally, as a centre of innovation across all media and creative sectors. The O2 awards are there to recognise that talent,” said Nicola Green, Director of Corporate Affairs at O2.
Categories for the region’s top print and broadcast journalists remain, alongside two awards focusing on community journalism. Fresh awards will be introduced for the year’s Most Memorable story and the region’s best Vlogger or Blogger.
Breakthrough talent will be recognised in the Young Journalist category – one of a number of awards to pitch journalists chiefly working in print and on-line sectors – against those from radio and TV.
“The O2s are unique in the way they encourage media professionals from different disciplines to compete against each other. It’s always extremely difficult for our judges to select an overall winner but that’s what makes these awards so highly regarded in the industry,” added Nicola.
Once again there is no entry fee to enter the competition. Deadline for entries has been extended to Thursday, June 15, to accommodate submissions involving coverage of the General Election. Only work published or broadcast between May 2, 2016 and June 10, 2017 is eligible for the individual and team categories.
Judging panels will meet in June and July and shortlisted nominees will be announced in August. All nominees will be invited to a memorable awards presentation on September 28, 2017, where category winners will be crowned.
Each category aims to identify the most talented and creative people in Yorkshire’s media industry as well as those making an outstanding contribution to their community.
This year organisers are also asking journalists to nominate their favourite drama or entertainment programme from those orginated or filmed in Yorkshire. Nominations can be for a one-off programme, series or long-running serial and emailed to O2mediaawards@rossitermedia.co.uk
The O2 Media Awards have the support of ITV and BBC, the Press Association and leading newspaper publishers. Judges are made up of experts from the media industry and include working journalists, editors and publishers, writers and producers.
The Yorkshire O2 Media Awards are part of a series of regional media contests across the North.
