Wayra’s London Academy recently played host to our first Wayra Enternships careers fair, which paired the UK’s brightest graduates and undergraduates with our resident startups and had His Royal Highness the Duke of York as the special guest of honour.
The event follows our new partnership with Enternships to offer students interesting, fulfilling and genuinely rewarding work opportunities at our Wayra academies across Europe. Our Wayra startups in the UK are looking for interns to work in programming, like app development, design and user experience, along with sales, marketing and PR roles. The Duke of York spoke about his continued support for initiatives that promote entrepreneurialism and encourage young people to pursue business ventures in the UK. We agree – there has never been a more important time to support graduates and startups in the UK than right now. We believe that we can help to drive the UK’s economic recovery by pairing young graduate talent with some of the best digital startups in our academies.
More than that, it’s about empowering the next generation to enjoy all the benefits and opportunities that technology has to offer. We recently published our first Global Millennial Survey. Which showed that 76% of the “millennial generation” (18-30 year olds) agreed that having an understanding of technology would make it easier to secure a job.
Our parent company Telefónica has 12 Wayra academies in 11 countries across Europe and Latin America, which are home to 170 startups. Wayra is part of our commitment to build a Think Big Community of more than 30,000 young people working to build a more entrepreneurial Europe. We’re also committed to enrolling 50,000 students in Think Big School, teaching digital literacy such as coding and robotics, and to transition 5,000 young people and graduates from education into the workplace via our Talentum programme.
