Virgin Media has further strengthened its longstanding partnership in the UK with Netflix, the world’s leading internet entertainment service.

From October, all new and existing Virgin TV customers who don’t yet have Netflix will be able to instantly add and pay for Netflix through their Virgin Media bill, giving them an easier way to access thousands more TV shows and movies including original series, documentaries and feature films on Netflix.

Virgin TV already fully integrates Netflix into its content discovery experiences like “Smart Search” which means customers can easily find and save their favourite Netflix programmes and movies all from within the Virgin TV platform.

This expansion of Virgin Media’s partnership with Netflix follows the company being the first Pay TV provider to bring the online entertainment service onto its platform way back in 2013. Since this date more than 700 million hours of programming have been watched through the Netflix app on Virgin TV’s platform, with over 100 million hours watched so far in 2018 alone.

With Virgin Media’s fastest widely-available broadband speeds of up to 350Mbps, which consistently top Netflix’s UK speed index, alongside the existing deep integration of Netflix into the Virgin TV platform, Virgin Media customers have everything they need to enjoy the very best Netflix streaming experience all in one place.

Virgin TV customers with a V6 box, Netflix Premium account and a compatible TV now have the option to watch Netflix programming in stunning 4K Ultra-High Definition and High Dynamic Range (HDR) following a software update for the V6 box. HDR heightens the colour contrast of a picture providing brighter whites and darker blacks.

The V6 is half the size of the previous TiVo box with 10 times the power and was built from the ground up to run apps such as Netflix. More than 1.6 million Virgin TV customers already have the V6 box with this number continuing to increase. All current broadband, TV and phone bundles for new Virgin Media customers come with a V6 box included.

Jeff Dodds, Managing Director of Consumer and Mobile at Virgin Media said: “Virgin TV has always been about giving our customers the TV they love all in one place. We were the first to embrace this open philosophy by embedding Netflix into our platform back in 2013 and it’s clearly something that our customers absolutely love. By expanding our relationship further we’re forming an even deeper relationship with our friends at Netflix and giving our customers a simpler way to pay for the service’.
