Virgin Media staff have brought a touch of Spring cleaning and Easter fun to a Llanelli school garden to the joy of its pupils and teachers.

Heol Goffa School in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, which caters for children and young people aged between three and 19 years-old with severe learning difficulties (SLD) and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), was in need of some TLC and Virgin Media wanted to provide a helping hand.

More than 20 volunteers from Virgin Media’s network expansion and community teams planted flower beds and cleared the area of any unwanted weeds or obstacles to ensure the area is safe for pupils.

Virgin Media also laid on an Easter egg hunt for the children with more than 100 eggs to be found.

Alan Bristow, Build Director for South of England and South Wales at Virgin Media, said: “I’m so proud of the Virgin Media staff that donated their spare time to help transform the outside area of Heol Goffa School. Their efforts will go a long way to help improve the daily lives of many of the pupils at the school.  Throughout our network expansion in Llanelli we will be supporting a number of communities through a range of activities.”

Heol Goffa School is located in the middle of Virgin Media’s ultrafast broadband expansion project in Llalleni, which will see 13,000 homes and small business connected to the UK’s fastest widely available broadband speeds.

This will help transform the quality of broadband in the area where the average (median) download speed is 19.8Mbps. Some homes have already been connected and can now sign up to Virgin Media’s wide range of services.

The area will benefit from fibre to the premises (FTTP) technology which allows for smooth, reliable connectivity in the home. With a 362Mbps connection, files, films and games become unbelievably quick to stream, download and upload:

·        Download a standard HD movie file (5GB) in two minutes, compared to more than 35 minutes on the average local connection;

·        Download a 25GB console game in 10 minutes, compared to more than three hours on the average local connection**

Customers will also feel the power of Intelligent WiFi – Virgin Media’s recently announced in-home broadband feature that will deliver the UK’s fastest widely available speeds to more areas of the home. This series of WiFi updates to Virgin Media’s Hub 3 router, alongside a new Connect app, gives millions of its customers an enhanced WiFi experience and greater control of their connectivity.

Over the coming months, expansion works will be carried out across the area. All residents will be notified and Virgin Media will aim to keep any possible disruption to a minimum.

Virgin Media’s gigabit-ready lines will mean residents can also sign up to Virgin TV and benefit from the latest entertainment on its 4k-ready V6 set-top box.  This is on top of great programming with up to 260 TV channels (including up to 50 HD channels) and all the football from Sky Sports and BT Sport.

Virgin Media also offers Sky Movies and Netflix, as well as an extensive on demand library of TV box sets and movies; giving customers seamless access to the TV they want, all in one place.

Residents can also benefit from Virgin Mobile’s fast 4G connectivity, which for pay monthly customers includes data free Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger and Twitter, as well as the ability to rollover unused data each month and have truly unlimited data packages.
