With more people commuting and traveling abroad for work as well as holidays, we thought we’d share our Top 5 travel apps. Share your favourite apps and experiences below in the comments box via Facebook or Twitter.

1. Kayak:

Kayak has a lot to offer: a currency converter, price alerts, airline contact information as well as the booking services you’d find online. It also incorporates other apps like Gate Guru, which tells you what shops and services are available in your airport and even (for a fee) terminal maps of 350 major international airports. It’s free to download, with some services requiring an upgrade to Kayak Pro (only £0.69). The best news is that the app is available on iPhone, iPad, Android and Windows 7.

2. Trip Advisor:

Another international website with a really useful mobile app. Trip Advisor is available for smartphone and tablet, on iOS, Android and Windows mobile. It features 75 million reviews from destinations all over the world. It’s really good for restaurant recommendations and allows you to see the number of reviews and the average rating, using a five-point scale. You can search by cuisine and price and there’s also a really helpful Near Me Now function. It’s free to download.

3. Trip It:

Clever and simple, Trip It searches your emails for any booking confirmations – hotels, trains or planes and sorts them into an accessible itinerary. Trip It is available on iOS, Android, Blackberry and Windows Phone 7. It’s free to download and you can pay $49 for additional services.

4. Instagram:

Known by many these days, but still worth a mention. Become a pro-photographer using Instagram. Capture images using your smartphone’s camera and then select a filter from a number of options to turn it into a classic. Instagram allows you to share your photos using its own site as well as Facebook and Twitter.

5. Commuter by Ayoupa:

For commuters in the UK, Commuter is one of the best apps out there, particularly if you work in and around London. It combines live National Rail, London Underground and DLR updates so that you can identify and avoid any disruptions through the whole of your commute. You can even give an alias to a station, to help you remember the station closest to your favourite cafe or a friend’s flat. For National Rail information you need to subscribe, which only costs £3.99 for 12 months. It’s also available at £0.69 a month and you can try before you buy for 10 days.
