Bettina reporting from El Salvador!
We have arrived in El Salvoador on the 9th of august at 18.30. The journey was long but everything went smoothly. Our hotel is situated in Juayua – a small town close to the volcano area.
The people from Fusal, the local NGO who works together with Telefonica at the Pronino project are very very nice and helpful. They gave as a presentation about child labour in El Salvador and the projects they are carrying out. Seeing the official numbers and
knowing about the problems somehow gave me even a greater reason to be here and give as much help as I can to these children.
Today was a very emotional day for me. We visited all three schools we are going to be working in. The directors and teachers were all very welcoming and the children are incredible. In the last school we were welcomed with an orchestra. They were playing amazing! Not crying was really difficult, especially because we saw on the way there how they really live: in "houses" made out of corrugated iron and cardboard! Some of them have to walk 1-2 hours to school and work before and after school aswell to help their families…
Tomorrow we are starting to work with the children. I am looking forward to it and at the same time I hope that everything is going to work out as planned.
Lots of hugs for my german collegues –
Bettina
