O2 has announced it has appointed David Plumb to head up its Telefónica Digital UK and Ireland business, with a seat on the UK Board of Directors.

Plumb brings 19 years’ experience in IT & Communications (ICT) working for C&W Global, Cramer Systems and most recently running O2’s Enterprise division in the UK where he had direct responsibility for the P&L and end-to-end Enterprise business. During this time he developed O2’s Joined up business proposition and launched O2 Unify, the fastest growing business in O2.

He will have full P&L responsibility for the Telefónica Digital UK and Ireland team where he is tasked with establishing and scaling new digital products and services, while continuing to drive thought leadership, innovation and growth in the market. He will also continue to be a non-executive director on the Tesco Mobile board.

Ronan Dunne, CEO of Telefónica UK said: “David joins the UK Board at an incredibly exciting time. 2013 is going to be the year we truly transform Telefónica to become a Digital Telco, and the UK market is very much the blueprint to delivering on this vision. David’s experience and energy will play a crucial role in helping to accelerate our speed to market to bring our innovative new digital services to our UK customers. I’m delighted to have him on board.”

Commenting on his new role David Plumb said: “Just as digital needs to be at the heart of the UK’s recovery, economy, export led growth, delivery of public services and future, it must also be at the heart of our UK business if we are to become the most trusted provider of digital services for our customers.”

“O2 has always been at the forefront of innovation and now we have the opportunity to take that a step further and make the UK one of the most digital markets in Telefónica. This is the challenge and I am looking forward to stepping up to it.”

Plumb replaces Martin Harriman who now heads up the Connected Homes programme in Telefóncia Digital. Paul Osborne will take over David’s role as GM of Enterprise in the UK.
