So today was our 3rd day in Peru and only our second day in Pisco but definitely the best so far.
There have been a lot of Spanish presentations which are difficult to understand when you only have the basics. This morning we thought we were going to the local NGO Sumbi for another presentation, but instead we had our first visit to the school we will be working in and it was such a surprise.
When we arrived we were greeted by the school band and then went inside to the school yard to be greeted by 100s of children all cheering and waving the different countries flags of the volunteers.
It was amazing, a little surreal but the welcome was just out of this world. All the kids sang the Peru national anthem and then did some traditional dances and to top it all off one of the teachers did a Michael Jackson performance which was nearly as good as the real thing. The work, time and effort that they put in to the welcome makes you appreciate even more being here and the opportunity to work with the kids.
Then this afternoon we did some team building, the 14 volunteers from Spain, England, Ireland, Argentina and Peru, all through Spanish which was really good fun but sometimes a little embarrassing! Its been a long and brilliant day.
