O2, the commercial brand of Telefónica UK, has rolled out its state-of-the-art O2 Wifi service across more than 1,000 SUBWAY® stores in partnership with the UK and Ireland’s largest specialist sandwich franchise, with the remainder planned to go live by the end of the year.
The roll out will benefit over two million SUBWAY® customers every week, providing them with fast, free accessible wifi, no matter which mobile or broadband provider they are with, addressing the shortcomings of current public wifi offerings.
Customers only need to sign-up once and can then use the simple and secure service in any participating SUBWAY® store, or at any of O2 Wifi’s growing network of hotspots across 9,000 top venues and locations, making it the UK’s fastest growing wifi operator.
The introduction of free wifi will enhance the in-store digital experience for SUBWAY® customers, building on the brand’s success with its fully mobile-enabled loyalty programme SUBCARD®, which now has over 1.2m registered users. SUBCARD® exists as a traditional wallet card and also as a mobile app with 2D Aztec barcode (compatible with iPhone, Android and Java phones).
Jane Abbott, Marketing Manager for the SUBWAY® brand in the UK and Ireland said: “The SUBWAY® brand is dedicated to investing in digital innovation to ensure we provide customers with the best possible in-store experience. As well as an excellent wifi service, O2 demonstrated a breadth of IT capability and services, making them the obvious choice to partner with for the next step in our digital evolution.
Gavin Franks, MD of O2 Wifi added: “The SUBWAY® brand is another excellent addition to our growing portfolio. The SUBWAY® brand is the UK and Ireland’s largest specialist sandwich franchise, specialising in great meals whilst on the go. Many SUBWAY® stores have customer seating so we identified the opportunity to help customers connect to the internet, whilst enjoying their food and drink.”
O2 Wifi was recognised for the quality of its service at the 2013 Subway Global Awards ceremony, picking up the prestigious Rookie of the Year award.
