Thursday 20 March saw the official opening of our new Think Big Hub in Shoreditch, London, with Nick Hurd MP (Minister for Civil Society) joining Ronan to speak at the event.

The 2,000 sq ft facility will help young people develop their digital, entrepreneurial and work skills.

The Think Big Hub is funded by the Telefónica Foundation and is an investment in young people for five years.  This year alone it will help 3,000 young people, offering them 500 hours of work skills and employment training, both face-to-face and online.

The Hub has four core functions:

  • A fully connected, free, flexible working space in the heart of London for young people to work on their social action and enterprise projects, holding training and showcase events
  • A space where young people can develop their coding and digital-making skills and capabilities, with our partners Mozilla, Freeformers, AppShed and Digital Me
  • A space where young people can access skills and employability training and support
  • A space for youth partners to collaborate for the benefit of young people in London and across the UK (including NYA, UK Youth, Young Enterprise, UnLtd, Step up to Serve and NCS)

Speaking at the launch Ronan said: “The economy is showing welcome signs of recovery but whilst youth unemployment is falling, there’s still over 900,000 young people out of work.  With the digital economy now recognised as crucial to helping maintain a long-term stable economy, businesses must look to the people with the right skills.  This means giving opportunities to those who have digital skills in abundance – young people”.
