The best and the brightest in the card payments industry gathered in London on Tuesday 2nd February for The Card Awards. And it turns out 02/02/2010 was definitely O2’s night.

The Card Awards, set up to recognise customer service, excellence and innovation in the UK and Irish card payments industry, held their annual awards at Grosvenor House last night. Hosted by Rhod Gilbert, the awards were given out to companies who shook up the market and really wowed the judging panel.

O2 Money Card Services entered two categories and we’re proud to say won them both. In the Best New Prepaid Card Product of the Year category, the judges were particularly impressed with the concept of the card. “The O2 concept is to encourage adults and teenagers to stay in control of their spending money. This message of responsible spending is well timed in these recessionary months.”

They didn’t stop there though, awarding O2 Money the Best Prepaid Card Marketing Campaign of the Year. Here’s what they had to say about our campaign, including commissioning The Closet on Bebo and producing customised adverts for Hollyoaks: “The dynamic, customer-centric campaign certainly has blown away the cobwebs surrounding payment cards and lifted the stigma of prepaid as a product for low-income consumers. The judges were impressed at the way O2 had tied the product into other messages surrounding the O2 brand. They felt the campaign has helped the prepaid industry take a step forward in explaining prepaid cards to the masses.”
