iPhone 4 is related to the…

If you’re already rocking an iPhone, you’ll know iOS. It’s exactly the same software that runs on the iPad 2, but with a few tablet-specific bells and whistles. The iPad 2 will run all the same apps as your iPhone, so you can dive straight in, and chances are you’ve already got a few favourite bits of software to run.

As the second generation of Apple's tablet family, the iPad 2 is the most mature tablet device around, and with a dual core A5 processor it skips along at twice the speed of the original Apple tablet.

It's also 33% lighter than its predecessor and thinner than your iPhone 4, so won't be too troublesome to sling in your bag. If you've got an iPhone 4 and are after a tablet, iPad 2 is the clear choice.

Blackberry Torch 9800 teams up with…
BlackBerry PlayBook
Out TBC | £TBC | BlackBerry
Of all the tablets in this rundown, the BlackBerry PlayBook is most designed to pair up with a smartphone. In its current incarnation it uses the email and contacts apps on your BlackBerry through a link up called Blackberry Bridge. It also shares the internet connection from your smartphone, saving money by skipping the need for a dedicated SIM card.

Most surprising though, is that the PlayBook doesn't run the BlackBerry OS that you'll be used to using on your BlackBerry smartphone. Instead, it packs the QNX OS, which also lurks inside some Porsches and a good number of tanks. In this instance though, it runs BlackBerry apps and, in the very near future will play nice with Android apps too.

Samsung Galaxy S plays nice with…
Samsung Galaxy Tab
Out now | £varies | Check out the Galaxy Tab on O2
It’s not just BlackBerry keeping it in the family between phone and tablets, the Samsung Galaxy Tab shares a bloodline with the Samsung Galaxy S. Underneath it all is Android 2.2, running all the apps you're used to rocking on your phone.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is another 7 inch tablet, with multitasking abilities to run several apps simultaneously and 16GB of internal memory which is plenty of space for stashing movies or music to enjoy on the go. The Samsung Galaxy Tab also has Flash player support, which means it'll handle almost all the video the web can throw at it.
