On Saturday 1 March our friends in New York held a TEDx Teen event bringing together inspirational young speakers, hosted by the one and only Nile Rogers.
What’s that got to do with us here in the UK you may be asking? Well more than you may expect as at the event dubbed “The Crazy Ones” it was announced that we will be bringing TEDx Teen to London. This is the first time that TEDx Teen will take place outside of North America. The event, titled “Remarkable Disruptors” will celebrate teenagers who are changing the world through committed ideas and applied passions.
At O2 we have a history in supporting young people through our Think Big programme, through which we have helped over 5000 young people lead projects in their community. We are therefore thrilled to be partnering with TEDx teen to give 500 young people the opportunity to hear inspirational and engaging stories from people of their own age, for free.
Yep, you heard it, tickets are free… You will be able to apply for a place from the 1st May, and attendees will be individually selected to attend to ensure the audience is as interesting and deserving as the speakers. The good news is that if you aren’t lucky enough to be selected to attend you will be able to watch the event online.
If you think you have an interesting story to tell we are now open for you to nominate yourselves or someone you know to be a speaker here. We will announce speakers and the host for the event in the upcoming weeks for now we have included some more information on the theme below:
Remarkable Disruptors
The world is changing faster than ever. Affecting every aspect of our lives. Business models and jobs that we couldn’t have imagined ten years ago, are now the norm. Boundaries are blurring, everyone can play a role.
Much of the change is driven by technology. Disrupting conventions to allow us to live in new ways, try new things and make stuff more easily than ever before.
Young people understand this better than anyone, being the first generation to be younger than the internet. Many of these young people are driving the change, proving that if you’re good enough you’re old enough.
We challenge you to see the world through their lens. To see not just the future they are building, not just the new norms they are creating, but the now that they have already impacted.
Pay attention. Life is moving quicker than ever. With each blink our world shifts.
Make. It. Count.
