The O2, the world’s most popular music venue, was named International Arena of the Year at last night’s Pollstar Awards in LA. Lauded as the ‘Oscars’ of the music industry, The O2 is the only music venue to have achieved this hat trick winning the award every year since it opened in June 2007.

The award comes after The O2 finished the decade as the world’s busiest music venue for the third consecutive year, selling 2,349,252 tickets. This figure saw The O2 break its own previous record as well as selling over 75% more tickets than its closest competitor.

Since opening, The O2 has been seen as a benchmark for music venues around the world. The venue has won multiple awards including, most recently, Favourite Venue of the Year at the TPI Awards, Top Arena in the World at the Billboard Awards and Venue of the Year at the TESA Awards.

David Campbell, President and CEO of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2 said: ‘I couldn’t be more delighted. Last year was an exceptional year for The O2 but to win this award yet again is awesome. Our team here always goes the extra mile to make sure that all our visitors – the public, artists, managers, promoters, agents – have an outstanding experience. I’m thrilled that this has been recognised by the industry and we promise to deliver more of the same this year.’

The Pollstar Awards also saw AEG win a host of other categories including Theatre of the Year (Nokia Theatre, LA LIVE), Best New Major Concert Venue (The Joint At The Hard Rock) and Music Festival of the Year (Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival), Best Nightclub of the Year (Club Nokia) and Talent Buyer of the Year (John Valentino).

The O2 has another bumper year ahead with more world class music, sport and entertainment. For full details please visit www.theO2.co.uk.
