Bury’s Rabina Khashnood is simply the best so far as her workmates at O2 are concerned.  Each year the company’s 11,000 strong UK workforce is invited to paste comments on an O2 Superfans website, applauding somebody they think has done an amazing job.

First Rabina, of Chesham, North Bury, a manager at O2’s Tesco Mobile centre in Dumers Lane, was voted one of 12 Superfans winners from across the company. She received that award from Strictly Come Dancing Presenter Tess Daly at a star-studded event at the Manchester Academy attended by more than 700 O2 colleagues.

The event was watched live online by thousands of O2 people who then went on to vote Rabina as the ‘best of the best”, awarding her the title of SuperDuper Fan and the top trophy which she again received from celebrity Tess.

Rabina won the admiration of colleagues for making work fun for her team and for getting the best out of people by believing in them, supporting and encouraging them.

Messages posted on the Superfan website described her as  ‘a very selfless person and a star who always puts herself out for others.’ Said yet another: ‘People clearly love Rabina.  She is a genuine soul who really cares for others and is a shining example to us all.’

Rabina won special praise for the way she rushed into action to help organize O2 Bury’s efforts for the victims of the Pakistan floods disaster which raised £8000 for the British Red Cross Appeal.  Colleagues also admired the way she had organized an O2 event at Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary where an overgrown garden area was transformed into a place of beauty.

Rabina, 32, who has a two year old son Adam, said that she was surprised and thrilled when she emerged as the overall winner. She puts her positive attitude down to her parents and supportive family, including her brother Fasar, also a manager with Tesco Mobile in Bury.

‘There is no reason why work cannot be fun and I want my team to look forward to coming to work.   Like everyone else I have off days but you just have to pick yourself up and think of others.  If you come to work on a downer, it doesn’t help your team or customers. If people hadn’t encouraged me, I wouldn’t be where I am today.’

Rabina began working part-time at O2 Bury nearly ten years ago as a customer advisor while studying for her degree in Law and Combined Studies at the University of Huddersfield. She planned to teach eventually. ‘I didn’t see myself as being here in ten years’ time but I was won over by the company’s brilliant management training and opportunities.’
