Transforming our mobile network with a £700 million investment in 2026
We’re doubling down on our Mobile Transformation Plan in 2026 – building on a whole host of upgrades and not-spots covered in 2025 to improve our mobile network for O2 customers.
What does this mean?
This year, we’ll be investing even further to improve reliability, increase capacity and extend coverage nationwide for our customers. We’ll be doing this by:
- Upgrading and installing more masts
- Installing small cells
- Redeploying 3G spectrum to 4G and 5G
- Deploying newly acquired network spectrum
- Rolling out over 1,000 Gigasites across the UK
- Continuing to use our fixed network to connect mobile sites to increase capacity where possible
As well as the above, we’ll focus on areas we know matter most to our customers, including:
- Stadiums and arenas
- Transport hubs
- Railways
- Major roads
- City centres
- ‘Not-spots’ – where we currently don’t have traditional mobile coverage
Strengthening our 5G+ network
Our 5G+ network already reaches 87% of the UK population and as we roll it out further across the UK, we’ll also move more of our customers onto the 5G+ network to make sure they benefit from faster speeds and improved coverage. The network is currently available to over 700 UK towns and cities – the largest footprint of any UK network.
Taking the UK’s best network coverage further than ever before with O2 Satellite
We switched on O2 Satellite in early 2026 – making O2 the first UK operator to offer customers direct-to-device satellite connectivity – and increasing our landmass coverage to 95% of the UK.
This meant that, overnight, we were able to bring coverage to an area two thirds the size of Wales, helping ensure O2 customers can always stay connected even when venturing into remote areas off the beaten track.
