(Monday 6th September) Today, Virgin Media has announced the launch of Club Rewind, the UK’s first inter-city connected club experience taking place simultaneously in London and Glasgow on Wednesday 22nd September, powered by its gigabit broadband.
Headlined by legendary DJs Pete Tong and Carl Cox, the live event will bring the iconic club scene of early noughties Ibiza to the British Isles, connecting music lovers from opposite ends of the UK through their shared love of the Balearic beats.
Taking place between 7pm and midnight, simultaneous sets will be played 400 miles apart with the DJs going back-to-back from separate locations, without lag, thanks to Virgin Media’s gigabit broadband service, Gig1. The Club Rewind locations will be connected allowing the crowds to share the experience as they enjoy a ‘virtual set’, with music fans also able to tune into the event from home.
Pete Tong will play in London while Carl Cox will take to the stage in Glasgow, with special guests to be announced. The headline Ibiza DJs will alternate tracks for a shared set, with Virgin Media’s hyperfast gigabit broadband powering advanced technology that manages the outputs of both the master and headphones, that will result in the ultimate beatmatching.
The connected White Isle experience will be brought to life through large scale wall projections, light and visual installations that follow the beat and motions of the music. And that’s not all, as part of the connected club experience, event-goers will be able to enjoy virtual Ibiza sunsets in real-time as well as fully-automated coat check and drinks services.
Carl Cox said: “I’m looking forward to getting up on the Club Rewind stage and joining Pete for a virtual B2B as we play some of Ibiza’s most iconic anthems and stir up some of those magical memories from the island we love.”
Taking inspiration from Virgin Media’s latest ad, which sees a young musician discovering their father’s musical past as an artist in the mid 90’s Jungle scene, Virgin Media carried out a poll* to find the club era people would most like to relive, with four in 10 choosing early noughties Ibiza house
Simon Groves, Director of Brand and Marketing at Virgin Media O2 said: “Music has the power to transport you back in time, relive memories and connect with others.
“With so many clearly feeling nostalgic for the early 2000s, we cannot wait to bring back the iconic noughties house era with Club Rewind. We’re reimagining the super club scene from 20 years ago but with future-proof tech – plus this time round clubbers will be able to capture the moment on their smartphones. The unmissable sets from Ibiza legends Pete Tong and Carl Cox will be powered by Gig1 as we use world-leading technology to connect two clubs at opposite ends of the UK, with music-lovers also able to tune in from home.
“The supercharged club experience will demonstrate the capability of gigabit broadband as the DJs go back-to-back with a virtual set that will be streamed live into both venues, with our ultrafast services meaning they won’t miss a beat.”
