Southampton FC legend Francis Benali has kicked off the start of a new fans initiative from main club sponsor Virgin Media that will celebrate and reward Saints supporters for their incredible support.
To launch the new fans campaign – called Super Saints – Benali performed a tongue-in-cheek ‘sainting’ ceremony with Southampton supporters on the hallowed turf at St Mary’s Stadium.
This including nods to footballing yesteryear including half-time oranges and a magic sponge to recognise all fans as Super Saints.
As part of Super Saints, Virgin Media will be recognising Saints fans for their loyal and dedicated support with a range of competitions and money-can’t-buy giveaways as well as unique fan experiences and behind the scenes content.
This is on top of a number of fan and community initiatives from Virgin Media has done over the past three seasons as the main club sponsor of Southampton Football Club. This has ranged from free food and drink on match days; surprise training sessions with local schools and given fans the opportunity to play at St Mary’s Stadium.
For more information on Super Saints, fans are encouraged to visit virginmedia.com/supersaints or Virgin Media’s Twitter or Facebook pages.
Francis Benali, Virgin Media Super Saints Ambassador, said: “I know all too well from my playing days just how incredible Southampton supporters are and it’s amazing to see the love and dedication they have for the club celebrated by Virgin Media. Super Saints is all about rewarding Saints fans in ways they would never expect and I can’t wait to help surprise one or two of them throughout the rest of the season as a well-deserved thank you for their unwavering passion and loyalty.”
Cilesta Van Doorn, Brand Director, from Virgin Media said: “We have complete admiration for the passion and commitment Southampton supporters show for their club week in week out and they deserve to be rewarded for their dedication. Super Saints will provide a range of unique fan experiences and we can’t wait to get started.”
