A Virgin Media O2 employee is being praised for his rapid response after helping a Leeds customer receive urgent medical attention when he suffered a stroke during a routine home visit.

Stephen Parsonage had visited the new customer’s home to help with setting us his services when during the conversation, the customer suddenly began struggling to speak. Recognising the signs of a possible stroke, Stephen immediately called 999.

With the ambulance unable to get to the scene quickly, good Samaritan Stephen jumped into action. Not only did he reach out to his family to let them know what happened and ensured his younger child was cared for, but Stephen also drove the customer to the St James’s University Hospital in Leeds himself, ensuring he could receive treatment as soon as possible.
The customer is now stable and back home with his family, who have rung Stephen to let them know how “eternally grateful” they are his actions.

Will Houldsworth director of retail and field sales at Virgin Media O2, praised his response, saying:

“Stephen went above and beyond for this customer. What started as a routine visit quickly became a medical emergency, and his calm thinking, compassion and decisive action helped ensure the customer received treatment as quickly as possible.
We’re incredibly proud of the way he stepped in to support not only the customer but the whole family during a very distressing situation.”
