To showcase the strength and reliability of its expansive mobile network, O2 is partnering with Sofar Sounds to host a free, intimate gig in one of the UK’s most remote and scenic locations – the breathtaking Scottish Highlands.
In a surprise twist on a typical gig, the exact location and artist lineup will be revealed only on the day, but music fans can expect a range of up-and-coming and established artists to play, with four artists playing 30-minute sets. Previous Sofar Sounds lineups including Billie Eilish, Hozier and Wolf Alice.
Sofar Sounds is known for transforming everyday spaces, from rooftops to art galleries and turning them into captivating, intimate venues for secret live performances from a diverse range of music acts. Its latest gig with O2 will be the very first time that a Sofar Sounds show has been held in the Scottish Highlands.
The one-off event, developed in partnership with MGOMD and VCCP, follows O2’s latest mobile coverage upgrade in Scotland, which has extended 4G and 5G connectivity to over 13,000 additional postcodes, including some of the country’s most isolated areas in the Scottish Highlands. It also follows O2 being recognised as the UK’s ‘Best Mobile Network Coverage’ by Uswitch* and celebrates the company’s major investment in rural Scotland — over £700 million this year alone as part of its Mobile Transformation Plan.
O2 and Virgin Media broadband customers can access win a pair of tickets to the gig by entering the Priority ballot from now until 25th August via the Priority app. Those unable to attend the Highlands-based gig in person will still have the chance to get involved and immerse themselves in the Highlands experience from London, as the gig will be live streamed at The Outernet, Tottenham Court Road, London all powered by the O2 network. Alternatively, music fans can tune in to enjoy the performances on Sofar Sounds’ YouTube channel, via the Priority app.
Christian Hindennach, Chief Commercial Officer at Virgin Media O2, commented: “We’re investing in over £700 million this year to boost O2’s rural mobile network, and we’re celebrating in a uniquely O2 way – an unmissable live music experience. Through the power of our network, we want to make our customers’ lives more exciting and rewarding, creating unforgettable moments for them to enjoy along the way. This special gig in the Scottish Highlands, our first with Sofar Sounds, is set to be a truly epic event.”
Warren Webster, CEO of Sofar Sounds, said: “Sofar is committed to creating spaces for music, arts and culture around the world. Partnering with O2 to bring emerging artists to the Scottish Highlands is a groundbreaking opportunity, and we’re delighted to work with the O2 team to deliver an unforgettable experience.”
