Taking up the space of 13 football pitches with 75,000 people on the first day, this year’s Mobile World Congress got off to a cracking start, with industry heavyweights Samsung and Sony quick to showcase their latest devices.

Samsung unveiled their eagerly anticipated Galaxy S5, with built-in biometric security and the “world’s fastest” auto-focusing camera, according to the South Korean giant. We’ll be stocking Galaxy S5 on our revolutionary O2 Refresh tariff soon.

Firefox announced a €59 mobile phone. As Telefónica announced a partnership with Mozilla at last year’s Mobile World Congress, we’re excited to hear we’re bringing entry level Firefox smartphones to customers across the world. The Firefox platform is all about bringing the openness of the Web and HTML5 as an alternative operating system, providing more choice to customers in countries where smartphone penetration is low, especially Latin America.

Sony’s new waterproof tablets and smartphones. We’re big fans of the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, so we’re excited about the Z2 version which looks like a strong competitor for the tablet market. It’s great for business customers and the good news is, we’ll be stocking the device later this year.

Other highlights from day one included Yezz’s Andy AZ4.5, the smartphone for the silver surfer.  And Chinese electronics giant Huawei claims to have developed the world’s quickest MiFi, the E5786, able to connect to LTE networks and providing download speeds of up to 300Mbps.
