British pop girl group, Sugababes, will perform for the first time at a sports venue when they take to the stage at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday 29 April at half-time during the Red Roses v France TikTok Women’s Six Nations fixture, which should witness the world’s largest ever crowd for a women’s rugby match.

The hugely popular trio, made up of Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, are currently on their first global tour for more than 20 years.

Sugababes have accumulated six number one singles, including top tracks such as “Freak like Me”, “Round Round”, “Hole in the Head”, “Push the Button”, which is the second most of any British female group, and have secured multi-platinum albums and sold millions of tracks worldwide.

The group are sure to bring huge energy to their half-time performance at the ‘Home of England Rugby’ in front of thousands of sports fans in what is set to be a momentous occasion for women’s sport.

The Red Roses v France TikTok Women’s Six Nations match has already sold the most ever tickets for an international women’s match and should beat the record attendance of 42,579 which was achieved at Eden Park, New Zealand, for the 2021 Rugby World Cup Final featuring the Red Roses and the Black Ferns.

O2 and the RFU is encouraging the British public to show up in their numbers and get behind the Red Roses. It is hoped that this fixture will draw in a new generation of Red Roses’ fans and will generate increased awareness of this incredible team.

The Red Roses are the number one ranked women’s rugby team and hold the record for the most consecutive wins (30) in history. They have also won the four previous Women’s Six Nations competitions and hope to make it a fifth after making a good start in this year’s competition with back-to-back wins in their first two matches.

O2, RFU and Women’s Sport Trust recently launched a new partnership to help close rugby’s gender awareness gap with one of its key objectives to fill Twickenham Stadium for a women’s rugby match by 2025.

The Sugababes said: “We’re honoured to come and perform at Twickenham Stadium as part of this huge occasion and can’t wait to get everyone up and dancing at half-time, as well as cheering the amazing Red Roses as they take on France.”

Alex Teasdale, RFU Women’s Game Director, said: “We’re delighted the Red Roses will be playing in the first-ever standalone match at Twickenham Stadium. Having the Sugababes perform is really exciting and will really add to the match day experience for the fans. We’re due to see a huge crowd to witness outstanding quality on the pitch, and we are made up to be able to provide this great entertainment off the pitch also. Games between England and France are always great contests and the Sugababes adds another exciting element to the day.”

Gareth Griffiths, Director of Partnerships and Sponsorship at Virgin Media O2, said: “The Red Roses playing in front of a record crowd at Twickenham Stadium is a huge moment for the team, women’s rugby and women’s sport as a whole. For this landmark moment, we’ve combined O2’s heritage in music and our purpose-driven partnership of the Red Roses to bring world class entertainment to a live sporting event – reaching a new fan base to Wear the Rose and support this brilliant team.”
