Networks, data centres and devices already account for around 1.7% of global emissions, and demand for connectivity continues to grow. At the same time, climate-related risks are increasing, with extreme weather and environmental change putting greater strain on the resilience of critical infrastructure.

Our approach

We are reducing the environmental impact of our networks by investing in more efficient, lower-carbon infrastructure and cutting emissions across our operations and supply chain.

We are also strengthening the resilience of those networks to withstand the growing risks associated with climate change, so the services people rely on remain robust, reliable and secure.

Targets and ambitions

Achieve net zero carbon emissions across our entire value chain by the end of 2040

Support the UK’s energy transition by sourcing 100% carbon-free energy and driving energy efficiency across our operations

Cover 75% of supplier emissions through our Supplier Carbon Reduction Programme by 2032

Building and operating more climate resilient broadband and mobile networks

Our Green Transition Plan

Our Green Transition Plan explains how we’re reducing our environmental impact and building a more resilient business for the future.

It focuses on cutting carbon emissions, using energy more efficiently, and keeping devices and materials in use for longer. It also looks at our full value chain, from suppliers and our network to customers, so we can make the biggest difference.

The plan sets clear goals, including cutting emissions significantly by 2030 and reaching net zero by 2040, while continuing to provide reliable connectivity. Overall, it’s our roadmap to becoming a more sustainable business and supporting the UK’s move to a low‑carbon future.

Our priorities

This lifecycle is brought to life through four clear priorities, each focused on where we can make the greatest impact and all underpinned by specific targets so we can hold ourselves to account.
